Alaska Seafood Jobs: Westward Seafoods H-2B, Up to $40/Hour

Alaska's winter pollock season is one of the busiest times in the US seafood industry, and experienced processing workers are in demand. Westward Seafoods, Inc. has two active H-2B job orders on the US Department of Labor's SeasonalJobs.dol.gov portal for its plants in Unalaska, Alaska: 13 Pollock Roe Technicians and 5 Surimi and Roe Technicians, with pay of up to $40.00 per hour. Because these are H-2B jobs, federal rules require the employer to pay the worker's visa fees, so this is a real free visa sponsorship opportunity for qualified workers. Job 1: Pollock Roe Technician (13 openings) - Employer: Westward Seafoods, Inc. (office in Bellevue, Washington) - Worksite: 1829 Ballyhoo Road, Unalaska, Alaska 99692 - Pay: $18.23 per hour, plus health insurance and potential for a bonus - Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (minimum guarantee of 35 hours per week) - Season: 1 January 2027 to 30 April 2027 - DOL case number: H-400-26279-283981 - Experience: 24 months of pollock roe processing experience and knowledge of Japanese fish-roe market requirements The work: separating pollock roe by hand without damaging the delicate sack, sorting and grading roe into 15 grades by size, quality and colour for the Japanese market, packing by grade, and inspecting frozen product. Job 2: Surimi and Roe Technician (5 openings) - Worksite: 1200 Captains Bay Road, Unalaska, Alaska 99692 - Pay: $24.65 to $40.00 per hour depending on experience, plus health insurance and potential for a bonus - Hours: 12 hours per day, 7 days per week depending on fish availability (84 hours per week listed; minimum guarantee of 35 hours per week) - Season: 4 January 2027 to 30 April 2027 - DOL case number: H-400-26279-284049 - Experience: 24 months of pollock roe and surimi processing experience, with the technical knowledge to grade products for the Japanese market and solve problems on the line The work: adjusting and fine-tuning machines that cut fish, remove roe and refine fish meat; mixing additives to make surimi; testing for quality, moisture and bacteria; grading roe for export auctions; keeping food-safety and sanitation standards; and training other processing workers. Both orders were listed as ACTIVE when we checked on 23 October 2026. StateTally, which summarises the official DOL data feed, lists lodging as offered for all current Alaska H-2B orders; confirm housing terms in the full job order. Visa costs: what the employer must pay Under the federal H-2B rules at 20 CFR 655.20(j)(2), the employer *"must pay or reimburse the worker in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees (including those mandated by the government)"*. Passport costs are excluded. Employers and their agents are also banned from charging workers any recruitment or petition costs (20 CFR 655.20(o)), and inbound travel and subsistence must be reimbursed once the worker completes half of the season. How to apply 1. Read the official listings: Pollock Roe Technician (https://seasonaljobs.dol.gov/jobs/H-400-26279-283981) and Surimi and Roe Technician (https://seasonaljobs.dol.gov/jobs/H-400-26279-284049) on SeasonalJobs.dol.gov. 2. Click "View Job Order" on each page for full terms, housing details and deductions. 3. The DOL pages list the Alaska Job Center Network for applications: email dol.flc@alaska.gov or apply through jobs.alaska.gov, quoting the case number. 4. Your CV must show the required experience, and the job orders say it must be verifiable. Include employer names, dates, the products you handled (pollock roe, surimi) and references. Tips for applicants - Experience is the key filter. Both jobs ask for 24 months of specialised experience, so these suit workers who already work in pollock roe or surimi processing. - Check H-2B eligibility. H-2B visas are normally issued only to nationals of countries on the US government's eligible-countries list. Check the current list first. - Prepare for remote island life. Unalaska is in the Aleutian Islands, with long shifts, cold and windy weather, and limited shopping and transport. - Budget for the first weeks. Visa fees are reimbursed in the first workweek and travel at the halfway point, so you may need some money up front. Scam warning Do not pay agents who promise "guaranteed Alaska fish factory jobs". Genuine H-2B jobs are listed free on SeasonalJobs.dol.gov, and US law bars employers and recruiters from charging you recruitment fees. Anyone asking for a "visa processing deposit" is a red flag.
